ANNUAL CONVENTION TROPHY RULES
1. GENERAL
Acceptance of the following Rules is a condition of entry.
1.2 In the event of any dispute the decision of either, the Competitions Steward, or Association Chairman, is final. All entries MUST be painted and finished, and only ONE ENTRY IN EACH CLASS (2.1 – 2.6) IS PERMITTED.
1.3 All entries must be the sole work of the member whose name appears on the competition form. (Group entries are not allowed). The competitions are only open to fully paid-up members of the 7mm Narrow Gauge Association and each entry must be accompanied by an official entry form.
1.4 All trophies will be awarded if there is at least one entry in each class.
1.5. Each class winner will receive the appropriate trophy, which they may retain until the next competition date, and will be responsible for the trophy's safe return to the following competition venue, or to a Committee Member who will be attending the venue. In addition, trophy winners and class runner-up will receive a "Nosbert" to retain.
1.6 Entries will NOT be accepted from members who are professional model makers.
1.7 Any model which has previously won an award in the Association competitions is not eligible.
1.8 All Members and non-members attending the Year 2008 Convention will be entitled to vote for the competition winners and runners-up, by ballot paper on the day. In the event of a tie either, the Competition Steward or, the Chairman of the Association, will adjudicate, and that decision will be final.
NB There are no runners up awards for "BEST in SHOW", or “MONKTON WYLDE” Trophies.
2 SPECIFIC TROPHY RULES & GUIDELINES
2.1 DON MASON SHIELD - FOR SCRATCH BUILT LOCOMOTIVES
This class covers any form of motive power except rail cars where at least the body has been scratch built or built by substantially modifying a proprietary engine. The chassis can be a proprietary product, a modified kit chassis or completely scratch built.
2.2 JOHN STITSON SHIELD - FOR KIT BUILT LOCOMOTIVES
This class covers any form of motive power except rail cars where at the least the body has been made from a kit. The chassis can be a proprietary product, or as supplied with a kit or completely scratch built.
2.3 DAVID LLOYD TROPHY - FOR PASSENGER CARRYING VEHICLES
This class covers any type of passenger carrying vehicle, including rail cars, whether kit-built or scratch-built. Single vehicles or a rake (up to three vehicles) can be accepted as one entry.
2.4 DON STONEHAM TROPHY - FOR FREIGHT STOCK
This class covers any type of freight stock, including non-revenue-earning stock such as cranes, brake vans, whether kit built or scratch built. Construction of the vehicle must at least include the bodywork, whether or not a proprietary chassis is used. Maximum number of vehicles in any entry should three, unless the entry is a special train (e.g. a breakdown train), by arrangement with the Steward.
2.5 HOWARD CLARKE THEME TROPHY
This class covers any items that are applicable to the given theme and that comply with the guidelines published for each annual theme. (See below for this year’s theme)
2.6 THE EARL OF CLEW CUP
This class covers any type of 7mm (or similar) scale building. The exhibit may be built in full or low relief and can be either kit or scratch built. This class does not include dioramas unless the diorama includes a building, which is the class entry. Road vehicles are not included in this class unless they integral with and specific to the building which is the class entry.
3.0 GENERAL TROPHY RULES
3.1 All entries in the above classes 2.1 – 2.6 will automatically be entered for the following, general, classes, as appropriate.
3.2 THE MONKTON WYLDE SHIELD - FOR NOVICES.
This class is open to any member who has never won an Association Trophy or "Nosbert" and can be for any model, whether kit built or scratch built, including locomotives, rolling stock and structures, entered in any of the classes 2.1 – 2.6.
3.3 THE LYNTON & BARNSTAPLE SHIELD
The Shield may be awarded for any locomotive, item of rolling stock, building or representative layout of the L & B Railway entered in classes 2.1 – 2.6. The Judges (in the case of layouts) are permitted to use their discretion when, for example, a station layout has been compressed. The winner and details of the winning model may also be publicised in the L&BRA magazine.
3.4 THE FESTINIOG RAILWAY TROPHY
The Festiniog Railway Trophy will be awarded to the best model of a Festiniog Railway prototype entered in classes 2.1 – 2.6.
4.0 OTHER TROPHIES
4.1 THE DAVID TAYLOR CUP – FOR BEST LAYOUT IN SHOW
The David Taylor Cup, for excellence in layout building, will be awarded to a WORKING layout exhibited at the Association's Annual Convention. The winner will be decided by a ballot of those attending the Convention, both Association members and the general public.
4.2 The Mervyn Axson LiTerary Award
This award is presented for the best article appearing in Narrow Lines during the full calendar year prior to the Annual Convention, decided by a postal ballot of the entire membership. For the 2008 Annual Convention, the vote will cover articles appearing from 1 Jan 2007 to 31 Dec 2007.
Theme for 2008 Howard Clarke Theme Tropy – “Down in the Dumps”. Ammunition Dump, Bomb Dump, Municipal Rubbish, or any other dump that takes your fancy. There should be a minimum of one wagon, a length of track and up to two figures, in appropriate surroundings.
