HB01 - Getting Started (Handbook, 5th Edition)

Getting Started in 7mm Narrow Gauge

5th Edition - All New Presentation and 40% New Material

Published in February 2018.

Now larger at 44 pages. Full colour throughout. You can download a sample extract here.

This new edition builds on the material in the previous edition. 'Getting Started' aims to help the new entrant to 7mm/ft narrow gauge modelling and mainly addresses British prototype modelling, although the sections covering general choices, approaches and techniques are applicable to all prototypes. It is complementary to other Association Handbooks, particularly the On30 Handbook and Going Minimum Gauge, which deal with particular areas of modelling in our scale/gauge combinations and the Small Layouts Handbook that provides a selection of layout ideas.

Topics covered include:

* An introduction to scales and gauge

* Different approaches to getting something under way

* Planning a layout

* The choice between analogue and DCC control

* Soldering

* Figure painting

* 3D printing

* Special projects to get you started: A conversion of an OO loco; Building a simple loco kit; Rebodying an OO wagon; and building a bogie coach, based on a Peco kit.
